Forest degradation results of increasingly cut down of trees causing serious imbalance in the environment of Bangladesh. This situation is getting worse because of the high demand of wooden furniture and fulfilling the demands of households and brick fields’ stoves fuel. To combat gradual climate changes ‘World Environment Day’ has been observing worldwide since 1972. Save the Earth, heal the Earth and make it Green - such type of valuable slogans that motivates every individual of each nation in the World is being implied importantly.
LHCB already emphasized the core value on tree plantation as Bangladesh government now a day’s took tree plantation as a top piratical matter. Keep this concept in mind LHCB has been organizing routine tree plantation program over the years in its working areas. But tree plantation is not only the think and solution that can balance the nature. So, LHCB thinks off introducing more advanced fuel efficient stove that basically reduce heat waste through smoke.
As per studies of the World Health Organization annually 32 thousand children and 14 thousand women die of kitchen generated household fires originating from traditional cook stoves.
Building awareness for preventing such household level disasters caused by traditional
cook stove generated fires. Smokes generated from the fire accompanied by the carbon particles have a negative impact on the women’s / users respiratory system and the eyes.
To reduce the fuel consumption, smoke emission in the kitchen and the reduction of environment pollution, Bangladesh Science and Industry Research Council developed an improved variety of cook stoves named “Bondhu Chula.” LHCB also emphasized this priority and introduced these improved cook stoves among 256 women in its working areas with view of following objectives;
-
To reduce the cost or volume of fire wood/leaves/straws by 50%
-
To reduce respiratory tract infections and eye related health problems
-
Reduce the coo
-
king time used by the women members in the family
-
Reduce felling of trees used for cooking
-
Reduce carbon emission from the cook stoves
After training, LHCB under gone a survey to understand how this training influences the overall livelihood of their family. For example we choose Mrs. Ramoni Rani, a dweller of village Rajakhali under Dumki Upazilla living with his husband Mr. Nor Uttam Hawlader an average farmer. This family is bit different from others of their surroundings because all of their children two boys and one girl (married) are well educated. Their modern thinking backed with limited income forced them living in a small house containing only three rooms including kitchen. According to them while using traditional stove, they used to spend monthly an average of Tk. 4000-4500 for fuel mainly wood, leaves, straw etc. Also that dry natural fuel creates lots of smoke and took longer time to cook, not only that all of the family members suffered problems like eye marshy and affecting their respiratory system as well. But after the training both the expenses and cooking time reduced dramatically near fifty percent approximately. Also the health problem they were suffering improved due to the stove creating no smoke at all. They were over joyed about the result and being thankful to LHCB as they can spend this savings for the well being of their two sons.
This is being the common pictures of all the other involvers and the success story of LHCB.
